Job Description

Position Title: Senior Network Engineer

Location Information

San Carlos, CA | Full-time onsite | 6-Month Contract | 40 Hours/Week

Position Responsibilities:

The Senior Network Engineer will play a pivotal role in expanding and supporting network infrastructure across multiple sites in San Carlos, CA. This hands-on role involves leading the deployment of new and siloed network environments, collaborating with a small engineering team, and working closely with security teams on advanced network solutions. Responsibilities include:

  • Leading the design, deployment, and management of ground-up, siloed network infrastructure, ensuring optimal network performance and security.

  • Provisioning, configuring, and maintaining network equipment, including switches, routers, and firewalls.

  • Collaborating with a team of engineers (3 senior and 2 junior members) to troubleshoot, resolve, and support daily network operations.

  • Working cross-functionally with security engineers to support SDWAN and Firewall configurations and participate in maintaining compliance and best practices.

  • Designing and implementing network infrastructure within data centers and Intermediate Distribution Frames (IDFs).

  • Coordinating network enhancements and changes, adapting to flexible scheduling as needed (including occasional early morning/late evening shifts to accommodate planned downtimes, typically about twice per month).

  • Traveling as needed between local sites within close proximity (note: no mileage reimbursement due to short distances).

  • Participating in a two-step interview process: an initial meeting with the hiring manager, followed by a panel interview with up to four team members.

Essential Skills, Experience

  • Proven, hands-on experience deploying and managing complex network infrastructure, particularly in ground-up environments.

  • Deep technical expertise with data center and IDF equipment installation, maintenance, and configuration.

  • Strong knowledge of network equipment from Juniper, Palo Alto, and Meraki.

  • Solid understanding of advanced network architecture, troubleshooting, and performance tuning.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision and drive multiple projects in parallel.

  • Experience designing and implementing siloed network solutions, integrating infrastructure components seamlessly.

  • Effective communicator with strong collaboration skills; able to work as part of a team and interface with cross-functional partners, including security and junior engineers.

  • Adaptable to flexible schedules, including early morning or late evening shifts as operational needs require.

Qualifications:

  • Extensive, recent experience as a Network Engineer, with leadership in new network deployments.

  • Proficiency working hands-on with Juniper, Palo Alto, and Meraki equipment.

  • Direct experience in data center and distributed/siloed networks infrastructure.

  • Familiarity with SDWAN and Firewall technologies is highly valued.

  • Strong preference for candidates with advanced Juniper Networks expertise.

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent professional experience preferred.

  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel locally between sites.
