Tetra Computing is looking for a Junior Data Engineer to join our team on a long-term contract basis, based in New York. This is a great opportunity for an early-career data professional looking to grow their skills on real-world, enterprise-scale data engineering projects.
Role: Junior Data Engineer
Location: New York, NY (Onsite/Hybrid — as per client requirement)
Employment Type: Long-Term Contract
Key Responsibilities:
Assist in designing, building, and maintaining scalable data pipelines (ETL/ELT)
Support data ingestion, transformation, and integration from multiple sources
Write and optimize SQL queries for data extraction and reporting
Collaborate with senior data engineers and analysts to ensure data quality and integrity
Work with cloud data platforms (AWS/Azure/GCP) under guidance
Assist in monitoring and troubleshooting data pipeline issues
Document processes, workflows, and data models
Participate in code reviews and follow best practices in data engineering
Required Skills & Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Engineering, or related field
1–3 years of hands-on experience in data engineering (internships/projects count)
Proficiency in SQL and at least one programming language (Python preferred)
Basic understanding of ETL/ELT concepts and data warehousing
Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) is a plus
Familiarity with tools like Apache Airflow, Spark, or Kafka is a plus (not mandatory)
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Good communication skills and willingness to learn
Nice to Have:
Experience with version control (Git)
Exposure to data visualization tools (Power BI/Tableau)
Understanding of data governance and security best practices
